2020 Turn & Learn Awards Banquet

Every year, Thies & Talle Management (http://www.thiestalle.com) hosts a Turn & Learn Event where team members from all of our properties can get together to expand their knowledge, network and celebrate their achievements.  Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were unable to do that this year.  Instead, we held our Turn & Learn Awards Banquet virtually.  During this banquet our Property of the Year nominees and winners were announced. The Market Rate Property of the Year Nominees were:  The Bungalows Townhomes (https://www.thiestalle.com/properties/bungalows-st-peter.html) – St. Peter, MN, Park Villa Apartments (https://www.thiestalle.com/properties/park-villa-mountain-iron.html) – Mountain Iron, MN and West Hillside Group (https://www.thiestalle.com/properties/westhillside-duluth.html) – Duluth, MN.  Congratulations to the Park Villa team, led by Property Manager Karen Kniefel, for being awarded Market Rate Property of the Year! We would like to thank all team members company-wide for contributing to a very successful year!

MADACS 2020

Thies & Talle Management is pleased to announce that we had four MADACS nominations this year! The purpose of the MADACS awards is to recognize property management professionals who have made significant contributions to multi-housing, marketing and management through exemplary achievements.  The annual MADACS awards gala, held Friday, October 23, is the most popular, prestigious event on the Minnesota Multi Housing Association’s (https://www.mmha.com/) calendar and celebrates positive, innovative, community and industry-enhancing accomplishments.  This year has changed the way we do most things.  The MADACS awards were no different.  This year’s ceremony was held virtually, which allowed everyone to watch from the comfort of their own home.  We would like to thank the Minnesota Multi Housing Association for all of their efforts in making this year’s virtual event possible! Turn & Learn 2019

On November 12th & 13th, Thies & Talle Management gathered for our annual Turn & Learn Conference and Holiday Party. During the conference, our Market Rate Leasing, Property Manager and Regional Manager teams enjoyed sessions led by Lisa Trosien (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisa-trosien/) .  Lisa gave us inside tips and tricks on leasing apartments, customer service and marketing.  Lisa had us on our feet, laughing like crazy and left us feeling empowered with more knowledge than we ever thought was possible.  Thank you, Lisa! Our Maintenance team spent the day with Gordy & Tom of Park Supply of America (https://www.parksupplyofamerica.com/) .  Our Maintenance Technicians were able to learn the ins and outs of boilers, furnaces and plumbing.  They are all geared up for the winter season and the heat issues that could arise.  Thank you, Gordy & Tom! Our Affordable Property & Regional Managers spent the day with our Compliance Team Members, Kent Mortimer, Kris Nelson, Candi King & Stefani Dobbelaire.  They learned about new procedures for submitting paperwork and how to maximize their workflow.  Thank you, Kent, Kris, Candi & Stefani! National Night Out 2019

On August 6, 2019, Thies & Talle communities participated in National Night Out by hosting block party style events for their residents.  National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes and enhances police and community partnerships to make our neighborhoods great places to live.  This event promotes strong relationships between neighbors, law enforcement and property staff. Our communities had parties with cotton candy machines, bouncy houses, food drives, live music, prizes and great food.  Many properties also had visits from police officers, firefighters and other local emergency personnel. Office staff start planning their National Night Out events months in advance, as there are many details to work out and reservations of equipment to be made.  We would like to thank all of our staff for their hard work and GREAT parties that they planned!  We can’t wait for National Night Out 2020!

Turn & Learn 2018

On November 13th & 14th, Thies & Talle Management gathered for our annual Turn & Learn Conference and Holiday Party.  During the conference, we enjoyed some great speakers, team building activities and educational sessions.  On Tuesday evening, Service Anniversaries were announced. Our five-year anniversaries included: Andrea Harmon (Golden Creek), Barbara Cassibo (Hampton Court), Connie Haverkamp (Birch Court), Dale Page (Golden Creek), Daniel Pillar (Maple Ridge), Jeromy Gednalske (Prairie Tree), Karen Kniefel (Raintree West), Kristina Clement (Southview Terrace), Marcia Heath (Carriage House), Marilyn Vosberg (Garden Court), Sharon Brady (Almanor) and Stefani Dobbelaire (Compliance Manager). Our 10-year anniversaries included:  Elizabeth Dioszegi (Riva Ridge), Marja Nelson (Regional Manager) and Mark Swennes (Cutters Grove). Our 15-year anniversaries included: Diane Marquardt (Heritage Place), Lucinda Samsa (Lincoln Center), Mary Johnson (Senior Regional Manager), Pamela McDeid (Somerset Oaks) and Richard Haefner (IT Administrator). Constance Bussey (Southview Terrace) and Helen Ganske (Regional Manager) celebrated 25 years with Thies & Talle. Kimberly Nerhaugen (Munger Terrace) celebrated 30 years of service with Thies & Talle. The nominees for Property of the Year for categories of Affordable and Market Rate were also announced. This year, our Affordable nominees were:  Abbey Field, Canda Manor, Centennial Plaza, Circle Pines and York Manor.  The Market Rate Property of the Year Nominees were:  Cutters Grove, Lakewood Hills, Oak Street, Parkwood Heights & Rustic Lodge.  Congratulations to the Canda Manor team, led by Property Manager Lynn Williams, for being awarded Affordable Property of the Year, and the Lakewood Hills team, led by Property Manager John Nielsen, for being awarded Market Rate Property of the Year! Training at the Lake

On June 13th, 2017, Thies & Talle held a regional training meeting for Regional Property Managers and Property Managers from areas such as Duluth, Hibbing, Mountain Iron, Grand Rapids, Fergus Falls, and Moorhead, MN as well as Fargo, ND.  Team members attending this training event traveled to the beautiful Chase on the Lake Resort (https://www.chaseonthelake.com/) and conference center, located in Walker, MN. The day started out with an overview of new updates and improvements that have been made to RealPage’s Mobile Facilities Maintenance application (https://www.realpage.com/property-management-software/facilities-maintenance/) .  Updates to Facilities Plus include; new buttons to initiate, or complete service requests and inspections, an enhanced navigation interface, and a new workflow process on how to flag issues and assess damages.  Next up, the group reviewed the best practices when posting to Craigslist and Craigslist headline brainstorming!  Then before lunch, the group role played different phone and in person sales techniques.  The afternoon brought a great presentation about best practices when dealing with difficult situations.  To end the day, each property highlighted the different resident events that they have held at their property.  These events included root beer float day, outdoor movie night, ice cream truck Tuesdays, resident parties, gardening events, and many more!  Thank you to everyone who was part of making this another great Thies & Talle training event! Turn & Learn 2016

On Tuesday, December 6th, over 150 Thies & Talle Management employees gathered together for our annual Turn & Learn Conference and Holiday Party.  Our annual gathering is a two-day event that features a variety of different training sessions, a keynote speaker, awards dinner, and concludes with a show at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. This year’s training sessions included four comprehensive maintenance sessions which offered hands on training on topics such as; plumbing, electrical, boilers and furnaces.  For our property management and leasing staff, topics included Yammer, Mobile Facilities Plus, best practices of customer service, managing people & yourself and an overview of our monthly preliminary accounting month end review process.  Our keynote speaker this year was Donna Hanbery, of Hanbery & Turner (https://hnclaw.com/) , P.A.  Donna gave us a great presentation that covered a Fair Housing review and applicant screening updates. Spring Training Meeting

On Tuesday March 15, 2016 Thies & Talle Management held a spring training meeting in Grand Rapids, MN.   Staff members came from a variety of different areas including; Duluth, the Iron Range, Fargo, St. Cloud, and Michigan. The featured presentation of the day was from the Northland Counseling Center (https://northlandcounseling.org/) , located in Grand Rapids, MN.  Northland Counseling Center Inc. is a nonprofit, Community Mental Health Center established in 1959, servicing communities in the counties of Itasca and Koochiching.  The presenters from Northland Counseling Center were Audrey Moen a housing case manager that deals with supportive and permanent housing programs, Karolyn Teeters who is the contact person for case management and Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) workers, & Brandi Worrath who provides counseling services for clients with anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.  The presenters covered a variety of topics including the services that the Northland Counseling Center offers, different community organizations Thies & Talle Management staff members can reach out to, the importance of properly dealing with issues of mental health, and how to utilize techniques used in Dialectic Behavior Therapy. After the featured presentation from the Northland Counseling Center, Thies & Talle staff members took over to introduce, refresh, and review a variety of different topics with the staff members in attendance.    These topics included; using the Real Page Mobile Facilities Android App (https://www.realpage.com/onesite/facilities/) , prospect tracking, outreach marketing, monthly OneSite property reviews, monthly compliance reviews, an overview of the quarterly & annual performance review process and time sheet tracking.
