Known for her highly individual vocal style, she’s considered one of the most accomplished interpretive folk-singers of the 1960’s. Many of her songs are topical and deal with social issues. She initially gained recognition at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival and at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. She released her first album Joan Baez in 1960.
